Click Here to Register for this Workshop Because reading and writing
are the foundation of learning and education we as elementary teachers must provide
powerful and integrated experiences that teach students to "read to know",
"talk to explain" and "write to communicate". Effective learners in
any subject, be it math, science, reading or language arts must learn to question,
predict, summarize and most importantlythink!!
In this
outstanding new seminar for grades K-5, Barbara Novelli will demonstrate powerful
strategies that will improve your teaching of reading, writing and thinking to your
students and strengthen their ability to apply them in other content areas such as math
and science.
When reading and writing
skills are used in a real world context such as science and math, they become meaningful
to the student. When students use writing or use oral language to express themselves
clearly they deal with the technical part of language that needs to be learned. Journal
writing can give us a "window" to our students' thinking while it effectively
helps us assess their understanding.
In Barbara's class you
will use actual math and science activities to show ways to integrate the teaching of
reading and demonstrate how writing helps to clarify and assist in the development of
thinking. Strategies such as reciprocal teaching, visual diagrams, graphic organizers and
journal writing will be demonstrated and explored. You will have a chance to engage in
effective literacy centers that you can take back to your classroom.
This "hands-on",
"minds-on" workshop will help you with wonderful classroom management secrets,
authentic assessment, and exciting math and science activities that will inspire your
teaching and really help you teach reading, writing and thinking in other content areas.
Enjoy this fun filled, idea packed day that is a can't miss opportunity!
