About the Class:

Sutton’s last presentation of one of her all time favorite
seminars – Classroom Management of an Activity–Based Math
Program. Teachers in grades 1-6 will also receive an extensive
manual which combines over 20 years of teaching experience.
This audio workshop will focus on effective techniques for
managing time, materials and instruction of a quality program
utilizing “hands on” mathematics. You will also develop an
understanding of the NCTM Standards of Curriculum Reform in
Mathematics and experience activities that motivate students.
Highlights of the workshop include “mathematical openers” that
encourage higher level thinking skills, drill and practice
activities for fine tuning arithmetic skills, strategies for
whole class lessons, and managing the small group component.
Kim will share her enthusiasm for teaching mathematics with an

About the Presenter:
Kim
Sutton is a fabulous presenter, who has taught
thousands of teachers the joy and excitement of "hands-on" math. Kim’s
teaching experience includes over 20 years of
classroom teaching, regional math specialist and university instructor.
Kim has worked with over 150 districts nationally and internationally as a
staff development consultant. A former Associate Director of Project AIMS,
Kim has a master’s degree in Mathematics Education. Kim was the
keynote speaker for Northwest Conference, Texas CAMT and Kansas State Math
Conference. Kim has written many articles about pattern blocks,
classroom management and is the author of Math Engineers, Math
Focus Activities, Visual Tools, Number Line Workbook,
Making Math Books With Children, Powerful Numbers 0-100
and Place Value With Pizzazz.

Listen to the audio CD’s and complete the follow up assignment
to earn 1 unit elective semester credit from HSU. Details for
an outside assignment of 15 hours per semester credit is
included with the class. University credits are applicable to
licensure where such activities are approved.
